West Coast hip-hop label Up Above Records to Release Two New Albums March 25th
West coast label Up Above Records, home to underground hip-hop stalwarts Jurassic 5, The Visionaries, Supernatural, and more of today’s hottest indie urban artists, is marking March 25th with the release of two new albums - Look Daggers’ Suffer in Style and LMNO and Kev Brown’s Selective Hearing. Both projects find Visionaries MCs teaming up with new partners to push the boundaries of hip-hop.
Look Daggers is 2Mex with Ikey Owens (currently of Mars Volta and formerly of Sublime, Reel Big Fish, and Long Beach Dub Allstars). Their debut album, Suffer in Style, features an all-star list of guest appearances by Daedelus, Busdriver, as well as members of Mars Volta, Mastodon, Reel Big Fish, and Shapeshifters.
On Selective Hearing, LMNO teams up with producer Kev Brown, known for his contributions to albums by Jazzy Jeff, De La Soul, Marley Marl, Biz Markie, Raheem De Vaughn, and more, to deliver eleven tracks of solid backpacker hip-hop followed by eleven instrumental versions.
Each album contains an exclusive iTunes album-only bonus track entitled “Now a Word from Our Sponsors” with a special message from the groups. Hint: it’s worth the purchase if you’re into exclusive b-sides, remixes, and more.
LMNO and Kev Brown will make an appearance on Monday, March 24th (just one day before the album hits stores) at LA’s Fat Beats Records (7600 Melrose Avenue at 9:00 PM) for a free, all ages show. In addition, the Visionaries will be performing at this year’s Paid Dues Festival on Saturday, March 22nd in San Bernardino, California alongside the likes of Little Brother, Dilated Peoples, Living Legends, and more.
