ARETHA FRANKLIN Announces 4TH ANNUAL CHURCH REVIVAL in DETROIT - JUNE 12 THRU 14

Music icon Dr. Aretha Franklin will lead a "good 'ole Church Revival" in her hometown of Detroit for the fourth consecutive year.  The Queen of Soul's "gift to the Motor City" will take place at Detroit's Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ, beginning Thursday, June 12 through Saturday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. nightly.  The three-night celebration of faith will feature both local and national gospel vocalists and ministers. In addition to Dr. Franklin's performance, other artists and ministers set to participate in the event include The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Dorothy Norwood, Vickie Winans, Twinkie Clark, Bill Moss, Jr., Evangelist Sandra Riley, Evangelist Esther Smith, Eddie Franklin and Evangelist Ruby Terry.  Detroit ministers Reverend Edgar Vann, Jr. and Reverend Donald Parsons will minster at the Revival.

The Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ is located at 19190 Schaefer Highway at Seventh Mile Road and the Reverend J. Drew Sheard is the senior pastor.  The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

"I would love to see the City of Detroit come out to the Revival and refresh their spirits and faith in the gospel and the Word," says Franklin.  "And allow it to give many the support and the power that they need in these economically trying times.  Bring the children and give them the foundation that will stay with them for a lifetime as it has with me.  It will serve them in good times as well as bad.  The artists participating are some of the giants in gospel and I guarantee you that you will leave the church with a renewed spirit and armed for the battle.  Come and just enjoy an evening of the very best in gospel."

Franklin is no stranger to gospel having grown up in Detroit's renowned New Bethel Baptist Church under the direction of her legendary father, Reverend C.L. Franklin.  Not only has she released her own landmark gospel albums, SONGS OF FAITH: The Gospel Soul of Aretha Franklin and ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM, the music legend enjoys and appreciates listening to others minister through Word and song.  As a way of giving back to both her gospel roots and the Detroit community, Franklin has brought in great gospel talent for the Revivals including Detroit's own Karen Clark-Sheard, Pastor Smokie Norful, Dr. Cissy Houston, Micah Stampley, LaShun Pace and The Anointed Pace Sisters, The Christianaires, Zie'l, Beverly Crawford, Bishop Paul Morton, Candi Staton, Richard Smallwood, Daryl Coley, Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs, Dr. Bobby Jones, and the Reverend Dr. Joseph Lowery, among others.

Known around the world by her first name, Aretha has achieved global recognition on an unprecedented scale.  Her ever-distinctive soulful, to-the-bone vocal style has graced the music charts for over four decades and her live performances have touched the hearts of tens of millions since she began her musical journey in Detroit as a gospel-singing child prodigy.  Franklin has earned countless international and national awards as well as accolades and global recognition on an unprecedented scale including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Kennedy Center Honor, 18 GRAMMY® Awards, a GRAMMY Legend Award, a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, and five American Music Awards.  In 1987, she was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 1979 she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Earlier this year, Franklin was named "2008 MusiCares® Person of the Year" by the Recording Academy in honor of her extraordinary artistic achievements as well as her philanthropic efforts, which include Save The Children, Easter Seals and various churches and food banks in the Detroit metropolitan area.  In addition, the celebrated artist was presented with the prestigious NAACP Vanguard Award during a nationally televised presentation of the 39th NAACP Image Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles.  The NAACP Vanguard Award is presented to a person whose groundbreaking work increases our understanding and awareness of racial and social issues.  The award has only been presented three times in the history of organization.

Following the Revival, Franklin will embark upon a summer tour.
